Painting mandala art on to my surfboard fins.
Last summer I bought a new surfboard. I always wanted a short ‘fish’ shape board and as soon as I bought it I noticed the fins were quite wide, room enough for a little artwork. I drew some inspiration from an Australian artist Jess Lambert who I follow on Instagram, she creates amazing pieces of work on wooden surfboards just using Posca pens. So as our arty, crafty house is full of every conceivable type of paint and pen, I thought I would have a go.
The FCS fin system allows you to remove each fin easily. Then I needed to lightly sand them down to give a matt finish to paint on.
And here are the final results after a few layers of clear matt lacquer.
